چکیده

This paper demonstrates the use of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS), polyurethane (PU), epoxy, and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) as mandrils to fabricate metallic heat exchangers having 300–700 m internal channels. The mandrils were prepared using two soft lithographic techniques-replica molding, and microembossing. To fabricate the heat exchangers, the polymeric mandrils were coated with a thin layer of metal by thermal evaporation or sputtering; this layer acted as the cathode for electrodeposition of a shell of nickel or copper that was 100 m thick. The polymers were removed by burning them out at 400 C in air, or by dissolving them with a tetrahydrofuran solution of tetrabutylammonium fluoride. Studies of heat dissipation showed that the nickel heat exchangers with features that range in size from 150–750 m have thermal resistances ranging from 0.07 to 0.12 C W 1 cm at flow rates of water of 20 L h 1 and pressures of 8.6–83 10 N m . Fabrication of Suspended Polymer Microstructures Using Sacrificial Layer Micromolding and Patterned Substrate Micromolding

Two soft lithography based fabrication techniques were employed for fabricating mechanically independent, freely suspended polymer microstructure from poly(n-propyl methacrylate) (PPMA) and poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). Both methods involve a micromolding process followed by thermal bonding to the substrate. The first method, sacrificial layer micromolding, uses a water-soluble sacrificial ...

Polymer sphere lithography for solid oxide fuel cells: a route to functional, well-defined electrode structures

As a first step towards mechanistic studies of fuel cell electrodes with both well-defined and functionally representative structural features, two-dimensional anti-dot metal films with tunable features are prepared. The fabrication employs a facile, sacrificial templating method, known as polymer sphere lithography, and the resulting metal films are fully connected, yet fully porous. Using ini...

Fabrication and Characterization of a New MEMS Capacitive Microphone using Perforated Diaphragm

In this paper, a novel single-chip MEMS capacitive microphone is presented. The novelties of this method relies on the moveable aluminum (Al) diaphragm positioned over the backplate electrode, where the diaphragm includes a plurality of holes to allow the air in the gap between the electrode and diaphragm to escape and thus reduce acoustical damping in the microphone. Spin-on-glass (SOG) was us...
